I wrote Eight Happy Planets for my son when he was a baby. I have always been fascinated by space, and dabbled in astronomy for a time after moving to a place where I could actually see the stars at night. My interest only grew as I researched Mars for my book Another Man's Freedom Fighter, which is set on a near-future Mars colony.
